MARIE CORELLI - Rare Corelli & The Mackenzie's
Home | These items have never been seen publicly. Click picture to enlarge.

A rare lock of Marie Corelli's hair (possibly the only one in existence) still folded in its original loop. A beautiful mix of sandy blonde touched lightly with gray. This was given to Mrs. Mackenzie from Marie Corelli.

Marie was 43 Years old when she sent this.

This custom dust jacket was inscribed by Major Roderick Mackenzie. It is addressed to The Grand Duchess of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, Augusta Caroline Charlotte of Great Britain (Augusta of Great Britain)(1822-1916) Daughter of Adolphus, Duke of Cambridge. Princess Augusta's father was Adolphus, Duke of Cambridge a brother to the Duke of Kent (Queen Victoria's father). A possible scenario is Marie gave it to Major Roderick Mackenzie, who intern planned on giving it to the Duchess. It is unknown whether the Duchess every received this gift.

The Grand Duchess

Note how she closed it with the ink still wet leaving an imprint on the inside cover.

This is Major Mackenzie's wallet or passport of sorts that contains quite an interesting document. Mr. and Mrs Mackenzie were friends of Marie. They lived in Scotland, where Marie visited often.

Back of wallet

Unfolded wallet. The upper piece is actually a small pocket, while the lower portion folds out into a beautiful document.

This is an amazing document, which I believe is a type of military passport approved by George William Frederick who at the time was Her Majesty's Principal Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs. (1857). It reads...

Vc. Vc

Request and require in the Name of Her Majesty all those whom it may concern, to allow

Major Roderick Mackenzie, British S?lyect of the Royal Artillery, fairy to Confir, Via Trieste to join his company.
